- Change the batteries on your CO detector every year, similar to what you would do with a smoke detector.
When Should You Replace Your CO Detectors?
There will come a time when you have to replace your CO detectors. In general, CO detectors last for approximately five to seven years. After that life expectancy, you’ll have to replace your current CO detectors with new ones. Many CO detectors have a life expectancy warning alarm that will beep when it’s time to get a new detector, but always check the CO detector manual to be sure.
